Time to Celebrate...

Time does fly, as they say, and this past weekend I celebrated my 6th decade on this planet earth.  Wow - hard to imagine eh?!  More on that later...

After a very full December, what with regional retreat, and hosting throughout the holiday season Lois and I decided to take the weekend and head to a bush camp, Bambelela, in nearby Limpopo province. About two hours north of Johannesburg it is at the very end of a very bumpy and precipitous road.  There we found a lovely chalet surrounded by hills and here we celebrated my birthday!  Without knowing it however we had found our selves in the heart of an animal rehabilitation camp. Bambelela focuses on caring for and rehabilitating human abused and mistreated vervets. Some 150 monkeys occupy the approx 14 staff who care for them and other animals that come into their keep. It was an amazing story that we had stumbled upon. We did had a lovely relaxing weekend, caught up on sleep, reading (and did more eating) and learnt a lot about animal rehabilitation. Some of the stories were sad and others hilarious. Here are a few pictures from our weekend at the end of the road.
