Saskatoon - this city of bridges straddles the South Saskatchewan River. Established in 1882 by a Toronto based temperance society seeking to establish a 'dry' environment away from the liquior trade the initial community has grown into a thriving city of some 250,000.

Average January temperatures range from an average high of -12C to an average low of
-23C although it can get much colder than that. The coldest recorded temperature was -50C recorded in 1893. The coldest wind chill factor has been -60.9C. The hottest temperature (for comparison) was 40.6C in 1988.

Saskatoon, derived from a Cree word describing the numerous sweet violet coloured berries that grow in the area, is a beautiful city with dynamic and friendly people and a sizzling economy.

For us it is our Canadian home even though we wonder about living in -25C temperatures while we enjoy +25C temperatures in Johannesburg in January.
