A jaunt in the mountains

In the midst of all the transition and leaving activity it felt appropriate to 'take a break' and that we did! Early August we loaded our Honda Accord with camping gear and headed out to Jasper National Park with our children Allison and Jason. There we enjoyed (or survived) 5C nights and 28C days. The campsites had to be bear bare since those denizen of the northern forest were not far away. Spent some time exploring mountain rivers, the Athabasca and Maligne, the Columbia Icefield and took a fascinating boat tour of Maligne Lake. Our end point destination on the Lake was 'Spirit Island' - one of the most photographed scenes in the Rockies. It was also delightful to just sit around camp in our hammocks, tell tales around the campfire and feast on fabulous fare!

Subsequent to that we 'B&B'ed in Jasper with friends from Ontario. One of our favourite hangouts in Jasper is the 'Bears Paw Cafe' - an awesome bakery. We also hiked into the alpine meadows of Edith Cavell and canoed on Pyriamid Lake.

The last leg of our journey was to spend a few days with Bruno's sister in Edmonton and her family and to say our goodbyes.
