Saturday, 5th December the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra and the Symphony Choir of Johannesburg offered up 'Carols on the Square' with conductor extraordinaire Richard Cox. Thousands of people gathered in Mandela Square (Sandton City) illumined by a light fashioned Baobab tree to sing Christmas carols and celebrate the festive season. At the end of the carols we were delightfully entertained by 'Freshlyground' a celebrated South African band who had partnered with Colombian Shakira earlier this year to perform the official FIFA 2010 World Cup Soccer anthem, "This time for Africa". Of course the band played this as their final tune to the delight of all attending the performance before they flew back to Cape Town.
